National History Day: The Brothers Grimm

Taking top honors, the Gold Medal and a $1000 cash prize, were Samantha and Clancy Penny, Lillian Ward, Grace Bowen, and McCollough Perry. Their junior group performance was entitled The Brothers Grimm: How Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Led a Movement to Preserve Culture and Created a Legacy of Literature. The Grimm girls bested 80 other teams with their informative and entertaining presentation featuring Snow White, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and the Big Bad Wolf. In addition to the performance, the students created a ten page annotated bibliography and interviewed scholars, librarians and Stephen Sondheim, creator of the Broadway hit Into the Woods, based on Grimm’s Fairy Tales.
